Display

The front display panel includes the Dynamic Island interface, replacing the traditional top notch to display interactive alerts and live activities. This feature was exclusive for iPhone Pro models in previous year and arrived to the base model in 2023.

The 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display features peak outdoor brightness up to 2,000 nits. Which is enough brightness when looking at your phone in the bright daylight. Twice as bright as the previous generation.

Performance

The device is powered by the Apple A16 Bionic processor, featuring a 6-core CPU, 5-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine. The CPU uses 20 percent less power and the GPU has 50 percent more memory bandwidth compared to previous generation.

Out of the box, it runs iOS 17, receiving multi-year software and security support.

Camera

The primary sensor is upgraded to 48 MP with sensor-shift optical image stabilization (OIS), outputting 24 MP default high-resolution images. The sensor utilizes a 2x crop to deliver optical-quality 2x telephoto zoom alongside the 12 MP ultrawide lens. Portrait depth information is automatically recorded when subjects are detected, allowing focus points to be adjusted after capture.

Battery + Charge

Charging and data transfer migrate from Lightning to a universal USB-C connector. Wireless charging is supported via 15W MagSafe and Qi2 standards, alongside standard Qi charging.

Additional Features

The iPhone 15 series offers Crash Detection and Emergency SOS via satellite. It also introduced Roadside Assistance via satellite with AAA.

Upgrade?

The iPhone 15 delivers updates centered around the main camera sensor, display enclosure design, and port standardization. For users upgrading from older generation devices (such as the iPhone 12 or earlier), the improvements in performance, brightness, camera versatility, and battery efficiency provide a tangible jump in daily functionality. Users with recent preceding models may find changes more evolutionary.
