Display

The iPhone 18 Pro has a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED panel that Apple calls Super Retina XDR. Resolution is 1206 x 2622, the refresh rate is adaptive from 1 to 120Hz, and HDR10 and Dolby Vision are supported. Apple lists 1,000 nits typical brightness, 1,600 nits peak for HDR, and 3,000 nits peak outdoors. The visible change is a smaller Dynamic Island.

Performance

The new chip is the A20 Pro. It is built on a 2-nanometer process and has a six-core CPU, a seven-core GPU, and a dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple says the GPU delivers up to 40% better graphics performance. Apple also claims 50% more memory bandwidth and twice the AI processing performance of the A19 Pro.

Apple redesigned the thermals too. The chip uses M-series-style packaging that places the memory die alongside the processor, and it connects directly to a new vapor chamber with three times the surface area of the 17 Pro’s. Apple says this yields up to a 40% boost in sustained performance.

Camera

The headline feature is a variable aperture, which is new to the iPhone. Apple says it is the first iPhone camera with physical aperture control, using six blades that move between settings. Users can manually choose any of four aperture settings in the Camera app, and developers get an API for finer control.

  • Main: 48MP, f/1.5-4.0, 24mm
  • Telephoto: 48MP, 4x optical zoom, f/2.8, 100mm
  • Ultra wide: 48MP, f/2.2, 13mm
  • Front: 18MP, f/1.9

Apple introduced updated Photographic Styles and pro controls for aperture, shutter speed, white balance, and a histogram. Apple Reference Image is designed to help users verify whether photographs have been altered.

Battery + Charging

Battery life is the other big improvement. Apple claims up to 36 hours of video playback on the Pro. The gains come from the more efficient chip and, in eSIM-only models, additional internal space. Charging speed has been increased with 50% is 15 minutes with a 60W charger.

Additional Features

iOS 27 and Siri AI: iOS 27 arrived September 14, and Siri AI is rolling out as an English-language beta at first, with more languages planned. It includes a Siri mode in the Camera app that brings Visual Intelligence into it. Some features have usage limits, with more access included in most iCloud+ plans.

Connectivity: Apple’s N1 chip handles Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. The new in-house C2 modem replaces the Qualcomm modem from the 17 Pro and still supports mmWave in the US.

Upgrade?

The iPhone 18 Pro is best for people upgrading from older models. Camera-focused owners of an iPhone 16 Pro or earlier should consider either Pro model, and battery-focused buyers should look at the Pro Max.
