Highlights
The Galaxy S26 Ultra features a built-in Privacy Display that limits side-angle viewing without additional separate privacy screen protector. The display remains clear from the front while restricting visibility from the sides. This feature can be toggled on and off through quick setting panel or programed to activate when launching a specific app or time.
The Galaxy S26 series is the third generation of Samsung’s Galaxy AI. The new Now Nudge feature minimizes app switching my showing relevant information in context. For example, if your friend invites you for a lunch at a specific time through messaging app, Galaxy AI will check your calendar and display a recommended response or action.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra features a 200-megapixel wide-angle camera and a 50 MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom and 10x optical-quality zoom, with a wider aperture for enhanced low-light clarity. Enhanced Nightography keeps pictures and videos clearer and more vibrant even in low-light environment. Additionally, the Horizontal Lock option provides a greater stability while taking a video.
AI-powered tools like the Document Scan, removes distortions and distractions such as creases or fingers to capture clean scans. Multiple images can be organized automatically into a single PDF.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra features 60W wired and Qi2 ready (25W) wireless charging capability. The phone is capable to charge up 75% in 30 minutes with 60W charger. However, keep in mind that it doesn’t have built-in magnets for wireless charging like Apple.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra utilizes Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy across all regions. The CPU is 19%, GPU is 24%, and NPU is 49% faster compared to S25 Ultra. Also, the 21% larger vapor chamber disperses heat faster for better performance.
Display
One of the most interesting features of the Galaxy S26 Ultra might be the Privacy Display.
The display panel is 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display protected by Gorilla Armor 2. Instead of relying on third-party plastic privacy films, the screen utilizes two distinct light-emitting OLED types: wide-angle for standard viewing and narrow-angle during Privacy Display session. Toggling the “Privacy Screen” setting disables the wide-angle pixels, directing screen output straight to the user and blocking other people from viewing sensitive details from the side.
Users can control Privacy Display feature in the Quick Setting by swiping down the right top corner of the screen. They can also set routines to control when or how the feature is turned on or off. Privacy Display feature is a great way to maintain a clear viewing experience when looking directly from the front, while providing viewing privacy for apps like banking, messages, or personal gallery.
Performance
With the new chip, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, S26 Ultra features a larger vapor chamber to dissipate heat efficiently under heavy loads. It introduces 39% faster NPU, 24% GPU, and 19% CPU processing compared to last year’s S25 Ultra.
In software updates, S26 Ultra ships with Android 16 and One UI 8.5, supported by seven major OS upgrade cycles.
Camera
There has been major changes in camera hardware. While maintaining quad-lens layout, Samsung changed lens apertures across the primary and telephoto sensors to boost light capture for Nightography.
The 200MP primary lens features a wider f/1.4 aperture (up from f/1.7), combined with multi-directional PDAF and optical image stabilization (OIS) to collect significantly more light during night shots.
The 50 MP Periscope Telephoto features a 5x optical zoom module with an upgraded f/2.9 aperture (widened from f/3.4).
The 50 MP Ultra-wide features an f/1.9 aperture with a 120-degree field of view.
The 10 MP Telephoto retains 3x optical zoom capabilities (f/2.4).
It also features a “Horizontal Lock” within Super Steady video modes for gimbal-like video capture. It is an incredible feature for people who take videos that requires a lot of movement.
Battery + Charge
There has been a significant changes to charging hardware capabilities. The wired charging has been upgraded from 45W to 60W and the wireless charging supports Qi2 ready with up to 25W. With a 60W charger, users can charge up to 75% in 30 minutes.
However, keep in mind that it does not have a built-in magnet for wireless charging like Apple. It requires cases with magnets to be compatible with other magsafe accessories.
Upgrade?
There are definitely a technological difference between the Galaxy S25 Ultra and S26 Ultra. While day-to-day usability stays largely the same, the S26 ultra provides features that provides more convenience in user experience.
If you need privacy display, better camera quality, and faster charging capabilities, go for an upgrade.
However, for S25 Ultra users, spending another large amounts of money is not recommended for few changes. With a longer software and security updates, it is generally recommended to upgrade personal mobile device for every two to four years. Mobile phones usually loses its 70% of its value by year three.
If you’ve used your mobile device with care and want to maximize your savings, it is recommended to change the battery if you notice any changes in battery performance.
